6th Annual Kente Cloth Festival Announced

Cultural Festival Attracts Local-to-International Attention in Celebration of African Heritage

 

New York, NY - The 6th Annual Kente Cloth Festival is scheduled to attract over 5,000 attendees this year. The annual cultural Festival is produced by New York City-based African Design Concepts Inc., a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of the Kente history and Kente culture around the globe.

Dancers at past festival.The event will take place over a three-day period: September 18, 19 and 25 from 12:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. inside the beautiful Cultural Center of the Riverbank State Park located at 679 Riverside Drive at 145th Street in Harlem, New York.

This festive celebration provides FREE ADMISSION to the general public and guests will enjoy Coca-Cola as the official beverage sponsor. The event will featured narrative story telling; educational exhibits; special performances; honorary tributes; entertainment and unique hands-on demonstration by skilled artisans to honor the history and culture of Africa. In addition, an array of on-site vendors will display handmade goods and crafts including a delicious buffet of Ghanaian food to sample and enjoy.

Kusi is a native of Bonwire, Ghana, the country of origin for the colorful, hand-woven cloth which initially ordained only African royalty. The annual festival was first introduced in New York City in 1999 as an offshoot of Kusi's kente fabrics and design business
